About Kaif
We are building the app we wanted: one that gets you out of the house and then gets out of the way.
Why this exists
Everyone has the same twenty people they would happily see more often and never quite do. The plans die in group chats. Meanwhile the city outside is full of people who would have said yes.
Social apps solved the wrong half of this. They are extraordinarily good at showing you what people did and hopeless at helping you do something. Engagement is the metric, and engagement means staying in the app — which is precisely the opposite of what a night out requires.
Kaif is built around one number instead: whether you actually went. There is no feed to scroll, no follower count to grow, no streak to protect. The app is at its best when you close it.
Why this is hard
You know twenty people you would happily see more often. You will see three of them this month.
Not because anyone stopped caring. Because nobody sends the second message.
The group chat where plans go to die
Six messages of genuine enthusiasm. Two rounds of "when works for everyone?". Then nothing, for four months. Everyone wanted to go. Nobody was willing to be the one who scheduled it.
A city full of strangers you would like
Right now, within a fifteen-minute walk, there are people who are free, who are into the same things you are, and who would say yes to exactly what you feel like doing. You have no way to find a single one of them.
Apps that show you the party you were not at
Endless evidence that other people are doing things. No help whatsoever with doing something yourself. You close the app lonelier than you opened it, and that is not an accident — you staying is the business model.

The relationship ended, the degree finished, the kids got older. You have time again and the friend group reorganised itself while you were busy. Starting again at 34 is not sad, it is just logistics.
You work alone all day
Remote, freelance, or the only one on your team in this timezone. You are not lonely exactly, you just have not spoken out loud since Tuesday. A coffee at two fixes more than it should.
You are always the organiser
Nothing happens unless you make it happen, and you are quietly tired of it. Clubs hand the admin to the app and the hosting to your co-admins, so you get to enjoy the thing you built.
What we hold to
Real life is the only metric
We do not optimise for time in app. Every feature is judged on whether it results in people in the same place, and features that keep you scrolling get cut.
Location is borrowed, not collected
We take the least location data that makes the product work, blur it before storing it, and expire it on a timer. We do not build a history of where you have been, because we do not want to be the company that has one.
We run our own infrastructure
The database, the file storage, the real-time layer and the operations console are all ours. Your data is not a line item on someone else's balance sheet, and we can answer where it lives without asking a vendor.
Safety is a feature, not a policy page
Blocking, reporting, approval controls and host verification are in the product where the risk is, not buried in settings. Moderation is done by people who can be reached.
