Troubleshooting

Common problems

The map is empty, the radar shows nobody, notifications are not arriving, and other frequent issues.

Last updated

The map says there is nothing nearby

  1. Widen the time filter first. "Happening now" is empty most of the day in most cities; "this week" usually is not.
  2. Check the category filter is not still set from a previous search.
  3. Zoom out. Discovery queries the area you can see, so a tightly zoomed map queries a small one.
  4. Confirm the map is actually centred on you and not on a city you looked at earlier.

If it is genuinely empty, your city may be early. That is the moment to host something rather than to wait — the first few gatherings in a city are how it starts.

The radar shows nobody

  • The radar only shows people who are actively visible right now, within 5 km. Outside busy hours in a young city, that is often nobody.
  • Check you are not in invisible mode — you cannot see others while you are hidden.
  • Check location permission is granted and set to "while using the app".
  • Presence expires after three minutes, so someone who closed the app has already gone.

Notifications are not arriving

  1. Check notifications are enabled for Kaif in your device settings.
  2. Check the per-category switches in Kaif under Settings › Notifications — messages, join requests and reminders are separate.
  3. On Android, check that battery optimisation is not restricting the app in the background.
  4. Sign out and back in. This re-registers the device for push, which fixes it more often than anything else.

Cannot sign in

If the code is not arriving, check spam, then request a new one — the previous code stops working the moment a new one is sent. If you signed up with Google or Apple, use that same button rather than a password; an account created that way does not have one until you set one.

If you are being signed out repeatedly, that usually means the app cannot reach our servers reliably. Try a different network before assuming it is your account.

Photos will not upload

Photos are compressed on your device first, so file size is rarely the problem. Check the app has permission to access your photo library, and try over a stronger connection — the upload goes directly to storage and needs the connection to hold for the duration.

Still stuck

Write to support with your device model, your operating system version, the app version from Settings › About, and what you were doing when it went wrong. Those four things turn a two-day conversation into a one-reply answer.
