Most gatherings are unremarkable in the best way. These are the habits that keep it that way, and the tools for when it is not.
Before you go
- Read the description properly. If it does not say what will happen, ask in the chat before committing.
- Look at the host — how long they have been on Kaif, whether they are verified, what their rating says.
- Meet in a public place the first time. A café is not being cautious, it is just normal.
- Tell someone where you are going and roughly when you expect to be back.
- Arrange your own way there and back, so leaving is always your decision.
While you are there
Trust the feeling that something is off — you do not owe anyone an explanation for leaving. Keep your phone charged. Be careful about how much you drink around people you have just met, and do not leave a drink unattended.
Do not share your home address, your workplace or your financial details with people you have just met, however friendly the conversation is.
The tools in the app
- Block — immediate and mutual, from any profile. They lose the ability to see or contact you, and are not told.
- Report — on any profile, gathering or message. Goes to a moderation queue staffed by people, not a filter.
- Leave — you can leave a gathering and its chat at any time, before or during.
- Invisible mode — takes you off the radar without affecting anything else.
Blocking someone does not report them. If the behaviour is something we should know about, do both — a block protects you, a report protects everyone else.
If something goes wrong
Report it in the app with as much detail as you can, including when it happened and screenshots if you have them. If it is urgent, or you reported it already and nothing happened, write to our safety address directly — it is in the footer of every page on this site.
If anyone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. We cannot dispatch help, and the minutes matter more than the report does.
If you are hosting
Turn on approval for anything at a private address or aimed at a specific group. Remove anyone whose behaviour makes other people uncomfortable — you do not need a reason, and it takes one tap. If you removed someone for something serious, report them as well.
